Changes

A zone of Indian Railways (IR), formed on 14 April 1952 from the merger of the [[Bengal-Nagpur Railway]] and the [[East Indian Railway]] (EIR) with the exception of the latter's '''Moradabad, Lucknow & Ellahabad Division''' which was transferred to the [[Northern Railway]]. 

 The amalgamation of the two large rail systems did not prove successful and on 1 August 1955 the zone was split to form Eastern Railway, essentially that portion of create the revised '''‘Eastern Railway’''' based on the old East Indian Railway as above together EIR with the Sealdah Division of the [[Bengal and Assam Railway]], and '[[South Eastern Railway]], ' formed essentially from the old [[Bengal-Nagpu Nagpur Railway ]] with slight adjustments within [[Adra ]] District.
