The '''Howrah-Burdwan Chord Railway''' was part of [[East Indian Railway]](EIR) system. The line opened in 1917 and provided shorter link to [[BardhamanBurdwan]] from the EIR hub at [[East Indian RailwayHowrah]](EIR) hub at . Prior to the opening of the Howrah-Burdwan chord the only line was the [[HowrahSheoraphuli-Tarakeshwar Railway]]which had been constructed in 1885.
