If you have ancestors with unusual names (like KUHLMEY) that no one ever spells In the same way twicepast, then seaching when a set of index records was derived from the IGI by batch numbers could prove more successful that by the usual search methodsrecords, normally taken from Parish Registers, as it will list all the names on that a microfilm, a batch. "[[IGI]]" stands number was allocated for International Genealogical Index. It is an that set of index of baptisms, marriages and burials compiled by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from original records and microfilms. This is available to search online at their familysearch.com website. Batch numbers beginning with "C" are christenings and those beginning with "M" are marriages. They are normally taken from Parish Registers. If there are no letters at the beginning of the batch number then they have been submitted by a LDS member and are therefore not necessarily from Parish registers. The number given to the batch is was just alotted allotted by the LDS computer. It does not correspond with the [[APAC]] shelfmark.

It appears that the practice of allocating batch numbers has been discontinued for recent sets of index records, but prior sets of FamilySearch indexed records can still be searched by batch number.
