The principal aim of the '''Indian Military Historical Society''' is was formed in 1983 to act as bring together those interested in the military history of the Indian Subcontinent and to encourage research and the exchange of information. This covers a forum for broad spectrum ranging from aspects of general military history, to specific battles or campaigns, to the dissemination history of knowledge Service units engaged in India, including details of uniforms, medals, badges, buttons and other militaria, as well as the history of . These Service units both before and after Independence. These include : Royal Navy, [[British Army]], RAF units which served in India, units of the [[East India Company's Armies|HEIC Army]] and Marine prior to 1861, the Indian Army subsequent to 1861, including the European Volunteer Corps, The the Royal Indian Marine , Royal Indian Navy, and the Royal Indian NavyAir Force, the Army of Nepal and those of the Princely States, and to a more limited extent, the present-day Armed Services of India, [[Pakistan]] and [[Bangladesh]], including Frontier Corps, Para Military and Police units.

===Journal===
The Society produces a quarterly journal called ''Durbar''.
The bottom of the website homepage contains a link to an [http://www.imhs.org.uk/pdf%20documents/Durbar%20Index.pdf another page "DURBAR Archive Sample" which in turn contains a link to an Index] (pdf, searchable) of the Journals from 1984-20102015, classified according to subjects such as Badges, Battles, Biographical, Medals, Regiments etc.. Journals were dated from Volume 6, No.4 (Winter 1989), but these dates have been excluded from the Index.
The website currently (December 2012) states it is intended to include an open There are three ''Durbar''s in the Archive page on Sample, the website which latest being Volume 30, No. 1, Spring 2013. will include all journals up to and including 2006. Other Journals from 2007 onwards will only be available to membersarchived copies of ''Durbar'' are in the Member's Area.
The journals published in 2012 are Volume 29. The [[British Library]] appears to hold issues from Volume 1, No. 4.
Oxford University Library (England) holds copies from Volume 16 No. 3 (Autumn 1999), catalogued as ''Durbar : journal of the Indian Military Historical Society''.
