John Masters

Novels with an Indian background
Lieutenant Colonel John Masters, DSO (1914–1983) was an English officer in the Indian Army from 1934, with the 2nd Battalion [[4th Gurkha Rifles]] Indian Army from 1935, and novelist. His works are noted for their treatment of the British Empire in India.
His 1954 novel Bhowani Junction autobiography ''Bugles and a Tiger; a Volume of Autobiography'' was made into published in 1956 and has since been republished under slightly different titles as ''Bugles and a successful filmTiger'', starring Ava Gardner''Bugles and a Tiger : a Personal Adventure'' and ''Bugles and a Tiger: My Life in the Gurkhas''. It covers the Waziristan Campaign 1936-39. The geographic location second volume of fictional Bhowani Junction was most likely Jhansi, but his autobiography ''Road Past Mandalay'' deals mostly with the film was shot Burma campaign in Lahorethe Second World War. Both volumes are available online, refer below.
