The bridge comprised fourteen spans of 150 feet, metre gauge and carried the [[Southern Mahratta Railway]] (SMR) which runs south from [[Poona]] and runs about 60 miles inland and therefore parallel to the range of high hills which border the west coast. The bridge crossed the Krishna River at [[Kudachi]] between [[Miraj]] and [[Belgaum]]

The bridge was under constructed in 1885 with [[Charles Herbert Parker]] serving under [[H C Stables]], Executive Engineer; the bridge opened Dec 1887
