The earliest sections, operating as '''Nizam’s Railway''', were commenced during the 1870s, variously financed, constructed and operated. Up to end of 1878 the line was worked by the [[Great Indian Peninsula Railway]](GIPR) Company with its own rolling stock. From January 1879 to 31st December 1884 it was worked by the State Railway agency and from January 1885 by NGSR
