The Northern Bengal State Railway (NBSR) was one of the first metre gauge lines to be constructed.


History

Initially built only as far as Chilahati but later extended to Siliguri (where the Darjeeling-Himalayan Railway began]], the NBSR branched west at Parbatipur to Dinagepore and east to Kaunia.

In 1887 the NBSR was merged into the Eastern Bengal State Railway in order to ensure better management.
