'''Field Marshal Robert Cornelis Napier, 1st Baron Napier of Magdala, GCB GCSI CIE FRS (1810-1890)''' was a British soldier who came to India in 1842 1828 join the [[Bengal Sappers and Miners|Bengal Engineers]]. He served in the [[1st Sikh War]] and the [[2nd Sikh War]] before commanding a column in the [[Black Mountain Expedition 1852-53]]. In the [[Indian Mutiny]] he was adjutant-general to command [[James Outram|Sir James Outram]] and defended [[Lucknow]] during the second siege. He then took part in the army of [[Central India Campaign]]. In the [[2nd China War]] Napier commanded part of the expeditionary force under [[Bombay PresidencyJames Hope Grant|Sir James Hope Grant]]. He His greatest success was commander in to lead the [[Sind Abyssinian Campaign]] in 1867 after which he became was created Baron Napier of Magdala. He was [[Commander-in-Chief in India]]from 1870 to 1876 when he left India.
