== Summary ==
Comte de Lally, with all the forces he could muster, encamped before Fort St George and began constructing siege batteries. Over two months there were numerous engagements. [[John Caillaud]] brought reinforcements from [[Tanjore ]] and assumed command of the garrison. French supplies became short. A British fleet arrived on 15 February and de Lally was obliged to raise the siege.
