Changes

The Rajah of Tanjore had not been an unreliable reliable ally during the [[1st Mysore War]] against [[Hyder Ali]]. The Nawab of the Carnatic (Arcot) was anxious to punish him and persuaded the [[Madras Presidency]] to join an attack on Tanjore. The British under Colonel Smith with their Indian allies stormed the fortress and took the Rajah captive. The Court of Directors of the [[East India Company]] disapproved of the campaign and ordered the Rajah to be restored in 1776.
