Originally formed on the 5th August 1884 as the [[The '''South Indian Railway Volunteer Rifle CorpsBattalion''' were an [[auxiliary regiment]] and later became . They comprised staff of the [[29th South Indian Assam-Bengal Railway Battalion]] on the 1st April 1917. Became South Indian Railway Battalion on 1st October 1920.
