The line was over by [[East Bengal Railway]](EBR) in 1887.
In 1901 the 17 mile(27km) ,’Kaunia]-Teesta Section’ was converted to metre gauge ([[Rail_gauge_#Metre_Gauge|MG]]) becoming part of the ‘Kaunia-Dhubri Section’ of the [[Eastern Bengal Railway#EBR Metre Gauge Division|‘EBR Metre Gauge Division’ - ''See separate page'']] <ref name=Admin56/>.
The ‘Teesta-Kurigram Section’, a length of 15 miles(24km), remained a 2ft 6in/762mm NG line at this time, this section was renamed the [[Teesta-Kurigram Railway|‘Teesta-Kurigram Railway’ - ''See separate page'']]
The section from [[Kurigram]] to Jatrapur on the banks of the Dharla River was abandoned <ref name=Admin56/>.
