There was also an edition with the latter title published containing both volumes (317 pages), published 1986.

He was initially in France with Calgary’s 31st Battalion, Canadian Second Division, (infantry) then transferred to the 6th Canadian Brigade Trench Mortar Battery. He subsequently joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Siberia, arriving in Vladivostok January 1919. He later became a university professor specialising in Russian history.
