The 'Cawnpore Sugar Works Ltd' was incorporated in 1894 by Begg, Sutherland & Co. They operated at a number of sites [1] :-

  • 'Cawnpore Sugar Factory', Cawnpore, opened 1896.
  • 'Marhaura Sugar Refinery',(c.300km south-east of Cawnpore), opened 1904. There was a 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) railway at this site [2]
  • 'Padrauna Sugar Factory', (c.430km east of Cawnpore), opened 1921
