  • 1761 raised at Bankypore by Captain Giles Stibbert
  • 1764 ranked as 1st Battalion
  • 1765 posted to the 2nd Brigade
  • 1775 renumbered the 8th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1781 became the 8th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1796 became the 1st Battalion 8th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1824 became the 9th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1857 mutinied at Allygurh 23 May

In 1861 after the mutiny the title was given to the 63rd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry which later became 9th Gurkha Rifles
