Chronology
- 1814 raised as 1st Btn 30th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 30th became 2nd Btn 8th Regiment
- 1824 1st Battalion became 59th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major J Pester
In the Indian Mutiny the regiment did not rebel and, in the ensuing disbandment of Bengal Army regiments, the 59th became the eighth most senior.
- 1861 became 8th Bengal Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
