== Summary ==
This conflict was part of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Revolutionary_War American Revolutionary War ] (1775–1783) and the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Anglo-Dutch_War Fourth Anglo-Dutch War] (1780–1784). The [[French]] sided with the Americans and declared war on Britain in 1778. The [[Dutch]] sided with facilitated supplies to the Americans French and thus became embroiled in the conflict.
