Summary
This conflict was part of the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783) and the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War (1780–1784). The French sided with the Americans and declared war on Britain in 1778. The Dutch facilitated supplies to the French and thus became embroiled in the conflict. In the East Indies the British acted against French and Dutch colonial possessions. The French formed an alliance with Hyder Ali so some of the land actions also were part of the 2nd Mysore War.
