Major-General Charles George Gordon, CB (1833-1885), was a British soldier in the Royal Engineers who volunteered to serving in China in the 2nd China War and the Taiping Rebellion. He won a number of victories in command of the Ever Victorious Army. This earned him the sobriquet "Chinese Gordon". His exploits and subsequent death in Sudan as "Gordon of Khartoum" are his other claim to fame.
