Major-General Sir Thomas Munro, 1st Baronet KCB (1761–1827) went to India in 1779 as a cadet in the Madras Army. He served in the 2nd Mysore War and the 3rd Mysore War and was an administrator in Baramahal and Kanara. After a period in UK he returned to India and commanded the Third Division army in the 3rd Maratha War. He became Governor of Madras in 1820 and died in of cholera in 1827.
