A railway linking [[Trichinopoly]] and [[Karaikkudi]] in Madura district and passing through [[Pudukkottai]] was completed in March 1926 as part of the [[South Indian Railway]](SIR) network.
The [[Trichinopoly]] to [[Pudukkottai]] line, a length of 32 miles(51km) was sanctioned for construction by the SIR in August 1916 but delayed due to the war.
