Sasvad was the headquarters of Purandhar tahsil in the Poona District in the Central division of Bombay Presidency during the British period. See Bombay Districts.
Purandhar was the location of a internment camp for enemy civilians during the Second World War. This was located in an old military camp, on a mountain top, in a very isolated position. For more details see POW Camps in India.
