Mary Martha Sherwood, 6 May 1775 – 22 September 1851, was a prolific and influential writer of children’s literature with a Christian emphasis.
From 1805 she spent eleven years in India, married to an officer in the 53rd Regiment of Foot.
Among her best known books is The History of Little Henry and his Bearer, set in India, published 1814.
