The Baripada-Talbond Railway was a 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge(NG) extension to the NG Mayurbhanj Railway, owned by private company belonging to the Princely Mourbhanj State. [1].

The line opened in 1920 joining Baripada to Talbond(now named Talbandh), a length of 38 miles(61km) and was maintained, managed and worked by the Bengal-Nagpur Railway(BNR).

Records

Refer to FIBIS Fact File #4: “Research sources for Indian Railways, 1845-1947” - available from the Fibis shop. This Fact File contains invaluable advice on 'Researching ancestors in the UK records of Indian Railways' with particular reference to the India Office Records (IOR) held at the British Library

An on-line search of the IOR records relating to this railway [2] gives the following: -

  • L /F/8/20/1682 “Bengal-Nagpur Railway Company Limited, Contract for the maintenance, management and working of the Mayurbhanj Railway and the Baripada-Talbond extension; 1923”
