In 1942The '[[Brassey & Co|Brassey, Wythes and Paxman Partenership]] undertook the GoI merged construction of the EBR with the a line of 112 miles(179km) from [[Assam Bengal RailwayCalcutta]] to create [[Kushtia|Kooshtea(Kushtia)]] on the River Ganges.
