The Calcutta Chord Railway was constructed by the East Indian Railway(EIR) as a link from Dum Dum, crossing the River Hooghly at Bally via the Willindon Bridge to Dankuni. [1] [2]

The 5 mile(8Km) line opened in 1931-32 with stations at Dum Dum, Noapora, Baranagar Road, Dakshineswar, Bally.
