General Nott's army was encamped and forage for horses was being collected. When a rumour started that grasscutters had been attacked, Capt Delamain, [[33rd Queen Victoria's Own Light Cavalry|3rd Bombay Light Cavalry]], took off with a party of cavalry. The rumour proved false but Delamain was abushed by Afghan infantry and cavalry. He suffered casualties and was forced to retreat in confusion. General Nott carried out reprisals against a nearby village.
