The '''Cuddapah-Nellore State Railway''' from [[Tirupati]] ( Ranigunta ) to [[Nellore]] was opened in 1887 thus linking [[Vijayawada]] and [[Chennai]].
This was worked by the [[South Indian Railway]](SIR), who attempted to purchase that section from the State.
