Chronology

In the Indian Mutiny the 33rd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry did not rebel and, in the ensuing disbandment of the Bengal Army regiments, the 33rd became the fourth most senior.

  • 1861 became 4th Bengal Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1890 became 4th (Prince Albert Victor's) Bengal Infantry
  • 1897 became 4th (Prince Albert Victor's) Rajput Regiment, Bengal Infantry
  • 1901 became 4th (Prince Albert Victor's) Rajput Infantry
  • 1922 became 2nd Battalion 7th Rajput Regiment
  • 1947 allocated to India on Partition and renamed the Rajput Regiment
