General Sir Hector Munro KB (1726-1805) went to India in 1759 as Major in the 89th Regiment of Foot. He suppressed the Patna Mutiny and won the Battle of Buxar in 1764. He was appointed the ninth Commander-in-Chief in India. After ten years in England he returned to India and commanded forces against the French and in the 2nd Mysore War. He led a divsion under Eyre Coote at the Battle of Porto Novo.
