The Howrah-Burdwan Chord Railway was part of East Indian Railway(EIR) system. The line opened in 1917 and provided shorter link to Bardhaman from the East Indian Railway(EIR) hub at Howrah. [1]
Prior to the opening of the Howrah–Bardhaman chord the only line was the Sheoraphuli-Tarakeshwar Railway which had been constructed in 1885.
