Formed 1873 as a horse-drawn tramway company; renamed Bombay Electric Supply & Tramways Co, 1905 to generate electricity for its trams & city
Electrified tram service began on 7 May 1907. Double-deck tram service began in September 1920; at the peak of service in 1935, 433 trams ran on 47 kilometres (29 miles) of track.
