Bhopal was a town in the Central Indian Agency (Wikipedia) and was the junction of the Midland section of the Great Indian Peninsula and Bhopal-Ujjain Railways, 521 miles from Bombay.

POW Camp at Bairagarh
During the Second World War, there was a large Prisoner of War Camp for Italian prisoners at Bairagarh, then a locality near Bhopal, now a part of Bhopal. See POW Camps in India.
