Chronology
- 1798 raised as 16th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 16th became 2nd Btn 7th Regt
- 1824 2nd Battalion became 33rd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under MajorJ Hay
In the Indian Mutiny the regiment did not rebel and, in the ensuing disbandment of Bengal Army regiments, the 33rd became the fourth most senior.
- 1861 became 4th Bengal Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
