Monteath left for Bootkhak followed by the 13th Foot on 11 October. Gen. Sale took the whole force forward in stages fighting actions at Boothak, Khoord-Kabul Pass and Jugdulluk and sustaining considerable losses. He reached Jellalabad on 12 November where he was to remain besieged until April 1842.
