General Sir Hugh Henry Gough VC, GCB (1833–1909) was the grandson of Viscount Gough and brother of Charles Gough. He was born in Calcutta and entered the army in 1853. He served in 1st Bengal European Light Cavalry and was at the Siege of Delhi and won a VC at the First Lucknow Relief. He also took part in the Recapture of Lucknow and the Abyssinian Campaign. He commanded the Cavalry Brigade on the march from Kabul to Kandahar in the 2nd Afghan War.
