The District Volunteer Force eventually became the Meerut Volunteer Cavalry, which was the seed of the Meerut Light Horse, but the force was made up of infantry as well as cavalry". Meerut Light Horse was a volunteer unit formed in 1857 at the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny. Also known as the Meerut Volunteer Horse and the Meerut Volunteer Cavalry. It was disbanded in 1861.
