Major-General Charles George Gordon, CB (1833-1885), was a British soldier in the Royal Engineers who volunteered to serving in China in the 2nd China War and the Taiping Rebellion. He won a number of victories in command of the Ever Victorious Army. This earned him the sobriquet "Chinese Gordon".
