The Gaekwar's Petlad Railway was opened in 1896 between Petlad and Cambay, a distance of 13 miles(21km). It was a broad gauge(BG) line and worked by Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway(BB&CIR). [1] [2]
In 1903 a short extension was added bringing the track length to 32 miles(51km) and the entire line was worked by BB&CIR.
At about this time it apparently became the Petlad-Cambay Railway and also later it was worked by Gaekwar's Baroda State Railway(GBSR)
