The Petlad-Cambay Railway was originally the Gaekwar's Petlad Railway which opened in May 1890 between Petlad and Anand, a distance of 13 miles(21km). It was a broad gauge(BG) line and worked by Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway(BB&CIR).

In 1901 the Petlad-Cambay Railway had created two BG sections, the entire line was worked by BB&CIR. [1]

Later, (after 1918), the railway was worked by Gaekwar's Baroda State Railway(GBSR)
