The Sylhet Branch Railway was a metre gauge(MG) branch line of the Assam-Bengal Railway(ABR). The line was under construction in 1911.

The first section from Kulaura to Fenchuganj Ghat, 15 miles(24km), opened in 1912. The second section from Kusiyara to Sylhet, 15 miles(24km), opened in 1915. [1]

The two sections separated by the Kusiyara River and were connected by ferry until the opening of the Kusiyara Bridge in 1916 bringing Sylhet into direct rail communication with the Assam-Bengal Railway main line. [1]
