Bengal Presidency was an adminsitrative subdivision of British India established in 1765. The Bengal Presidency covered the north and east of India and East Bengal (now called Bangladesh). It was divided into West Bengal and [[Eastern Bengal and Assam in 1905. In 1912 there was a further re-organisation into Bengal, Bihar & Orissa and Assam. Bengal became a province in 1935.
