A cement works was established in [[Wadi]], Kalburgi District in the state of Hydrabad as 'The Shahabad Cement Co' for which Tata Ltd was the Managing Agent. It first produced cement in 1925 when it had a capacity of 100,000 tons per annum. Limestone and clay were supplied from the company's own quarries which were 3 miles from the works and linked by a 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge([[Rail_gauge#Narrow_Gauge|NG]]) railway operated by the company <ref name =darvill>“Industrial Railways and Locomotives of India and South Asia” compliled by Simon Darvill. Gypsum was brought by rail from Barwar in Jodhpur State and the coal came from [[Singareni Collieries Light Railway|Singareni]] and Bengal. The plant is north of Shahabad station <ref name =darvill/> on the broad gauge([[Rail_gauge#Broad_Gauge|BG]]) mainline and was connected to this BG line. [[Wadi]] was a major rail junction on the main line from [[Bombay]] to [[Madras]] between the [[Great Indian Peninsula Railway]] and the [[Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway]].
The company became part of the 'Associated Cement Company Limited' in 1936
