The first section, 17 miles(27km), opened from Champaner Road to Shivrapur with a 1.7 mile branch to Shivrapur Mines. The line was transferred to the Guzerat Railways Company from Apr 1915 and the line extended to Pani in 1916, a total of 31 miles(49km) [1].
The railway was then owned and managed by the Guzerat Railways Company and in 1922 the company was taken over by the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway(BB&CIR).
