Gang Canal Construction Tramways

The 70 mile(112km) long 'Gang Canal' in the Ganganagar District was built as part of the 'Sutlej Valley Project' between 1924 and 1928. It was lined with concerete and a number of tramways were used during its construction. The kankar for the concrete was obtained from the quarries at Darbari [1]..

Nine miles(14km) of 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) hand worked tramway was used at the quarry sites to transfer the kankar to the mainline loading site.
