Serampore was a former Danish colony 20km due north of Calcutta. It was the headquarters of the subdivision of the same name in Hughli District, Bengal during the british period.

Danish history
The Danish name was Frederiksnagore. Alternative spelling: Frederiksnagor, Frederiksnagar. It was established by the Danish East India Company, by then called the Asiatic Company, in 1755.[1]

Frederiksnagore was transferred from the Danish Crown to the East India Company 22 February 1845, as detailed in this link[3]
