38th Regiment of Foot

History

1705 raised in Lichfield as Colonel Luke Lillingstone's Regiment
1751 became 38th Regiment of Foot
1782 became 38th (1st Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot
1881 amalgamated to become 1st Battalion The South Staffordshire Regiment
1959 amalgamated with the North Staffordshire Regiment to form the Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's)
2007 merged with the Cheshire Regiment and the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment into a new three battalion regiment called the Mercian Regiment and became 3rd Battalion, Mercian Regiment (Staffords)
