10th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
Also known as the Trevanion Battalion
Chronology
- 1759? raised at Bankypore by Captain Giles Stibbert
- 1763 became the Trevanion Battalion under Captain Trevanion
- 1764 ranked as 6th Battalion
- 1765 posted to the 3rd Brigade
- 1775 renumbered the 15th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1781 became the 15th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1795? became the 16th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1796 became the 2nd Battalion 7th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1824 became the 10th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1857 mutinied at Futtegurh 18 June.
In 1861 after the Indian Mutiny the name was taken by the 65th Bengal Native Infantry which later became 10th Regiment of Jat Infantry.
