Chronology

  • 1799 raised as 39th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1857 disbanded

The 2nd Battalion, 3rd (Kumaon) Gurkha Regiment became 39th (The Garhwal Rifle) Regiment of Bengal Infantry in 1891.
